Cyber attacks and strikes from ISIS and other nonstate organizations are forcing the U.S. military to rethink how it operates in battle. “There was a point in time where we had the view that our data was protected because it sat behind a firewall and we had an antivirus.The reality was that during that timeframe the approach that we would take to security was one that was reactive. The world that we are in today, adversaries can sit in the network environment for up to 500 days before they’re detected. What we need to do today is to really change culturally how we approach security. No longer is it sufficient to just simply say that the internet of things has made us more connected. Now we need to be more demanding in terms of the security environment.”
