Authoritarian governments are tracking dissidents by using sophisticated spyware on phones. Ronald J. Deibert, professor of political science and director of the Citizen Lab at the University of Toronto’s Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy, joins host Krys Boyd to discuss Pegasus, a tool that gives the operator near-total access to a person’s information, and how it’s being used as a model for the expansion of spyware. His Foreign Affairs article is “The Autocrat in Your iPhone.”
