During World War II, the small South Texas town of Crystal City was home to a secret internment camp. It housed immigrants from Germany, Italy and Japan, as well as their American-born children. This hour, we’ll talk about what life was like in the camp – and about the prisoner exchange program facilitated there – with Jan Jarboe Russell. Her new book is The Train to Crystal City: FDR’s Secret Prisoner Exchange Program and America’s Only Family Internment Camp During World War II (Scribner).
