After years of steady growth, the past week’s bloodletting on the Dow Jones Industrial Average and S&P 500 means the market has officially entered into a correction. Investors, of course, are hoping this correction doesn’t morph into a crash. America has survived five major crashes of the stock exchange – and each one left scars. His recent book is called “A History of the United States in Five Crashes: Stock Market Meltdowns that Defined a Nation” (William Morrow).
