The History Of Market Crashes

After years of steady growth, the past week’s bloodletting on the Dow Jones Industrial Average and S&P 500 means the market has officially entered into a correction. Investors, of course, are hoping this correction doesn’t morph into a crash. America has survived five major crashes of the stock exchange – and each one left scars. In June, Scott Nations talked with guest host Lauren Silverman about the first in 1907, the most recent in 2010, as well as the ones in between. His recent book is called “A History of the United States in Five Crashes: Stock Market Meltdowns that Defined a Nation” (William Morrow).
